Radon in Colorado

Radon is a colorless, odorless, tasteless radioactive gas that’s formed during the natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rock and water. Radon exits the ground and can seep into your home through cracks and holes in the foundation, and can also contaminate well water.

When elevated radon are found in your home, it poses a serious health risk.

Radon is the 2nd leading cause of lung cancer next to cigarette smoking. Approximately 25,000 deaths a year are attributed to radon. Every 25 minutes someone in the United States is diagnosed with radon-induced lung cancer.

Excessive radon levels have been found in all of the 50 states. In Colorado, approximately 50% of the homes have radon levels in excess of the EPA recommended action level of 4 picoCuries per liter (pCi/L). Click here for more information on Radon in Colorado.
