While winter is fast approaching and some of you are excited about that, and some not so much. Well your house doesn’t even know it. There are many things you can do to get your house ready for Winter. Here are a few:
Inside your home:
- Get your furnace checked out if you haven’t done so yet. And don’t forget to replace your furnace filter.
- Install a programmable thermostat, so that you can regulate the temperature. Hire a professional, do not try to do this yourself.
- Reverse your ceiling fans. The blades should go clockwise in the Winter, to distribute warm air.
- Make sure all heating vents are open and unblocked.
- Check around all windows and doors for drafts. Even check around the electric wall plugs and switches (if they are on an outside wall).
Outside your home:
- Clean your gutters. Be safe. Don’t do this from the roof. If necessary hire a professional.
- Shut off and drain exterior faucets and underground sprinklers.
- Have your chimney inspected, making sure it is not cracked.
- Double check those smoke detectors and replace your batteries.
- Plug in your carbon monoxide detector and check batteries.
